BIO

C.B. Smith writes songs that traverse the stylistic landscape between revved-up bluegrass romps, old-school country ballads and straight-up rockers, typically telling stories about ordinary people searching for some hard-won peace of mind.

“My earliest musical memory, besides church music, is listening to my mother’s radio in the kitchen. Back then you’d hear Hank Williams followed by Ray Charles. Ever since I’ve tried to digest any strain of music that turns my head around. A lot of it comes out of places like Kentucky, Memphis and Nashville, but I always try to put a Yankee spin on it.”

After decades in New York City, C.B. returned to the Hudson Valley in 2006. He and his dog now live in a charming little river town with mountain views. These days C.B.’s having a ball playing in venues up and down the Hudson, collaborating with other musicians, and recording an album of original bluegrass-oriented songs, due out this year.
